This is mostly referring to original character spaces because I live there lol. I think a lot of these things are a bit more common as a whole, but still not the most popular. These are simply things I enjoy, not what's right or wrong. ok? ok!
- Intead of many, I love drawing on one or two layers. It's much easier and gives the feeling of traditional art
- I use a single brush for sketching, lining and coloring. I thought I'd get bored of it, especially because I overused brushes, but I don't. In fact, I love art art more this way.
- I love *human characters more than humanoids, and animals/creatures. Still within the "they can do cool shit" fantasy niche, but not the dog ears or unrealistic coloring kind.
- Realistic but exaggerated body horror is cool. Realistic gore is cooler than fantasy gore (or fantasy that is realistic for the creature/person within their worldbuilding)
- Studying art fundamentals is fun
- Lineart is fun. I'm having a blast with inktober (I'm just slow pfff)
- I love drawing folds & wrinkles and I adore styles that have it. It feels so natural.
- Drawing things in perspective >>>> drawing something on the horizon line
- Intentionally organized messy lineart styles are awesome
- Freehand drawn front viewing faces instead of using tools to mirror one side, as well as adding perspective & movement like a slight tilt to add visual interest. Aka, making a simple prompt interesting & more dynamic.
- Strong shadows create cooler athmosphere. Smash that black blob of paint on there
- Moody colors rock
- Hard edges >>>> soft edges
- Character interactions are just as interesting as solo pieces
- Light and shadow make sense with reasoning and thought, even if abtract, they still follow a rule
- Exaggerated poses and emotions are more fun and interesting
- Unconventional stylised artstyles that aren't super specific and more just their own thing
