I got my dirty lill hands on new plants again >:) And not just any, but really cool ones, and two wishlist items. Parts of this (6 plants) are from a plnts surprise / sad plants box. Baby plants are my favorite to buy, I actually don't buy huge plants much if at all. Seeing them grow is half the fun, super rewarding & they're way cheaper as well.
Took a picture of them all. Some are labeled with a ?. I'm unsure about the exact variety atm, especially since many of them are still tiny babies. (I beg you plnts please finally start labeling your surprise boxes.) But I'm pretty sure its the right name.
I freed them all from their old subtrate and repotted them straight after arrival, and yes this is something many plant people don't recommed. I'm aware of this. However Im obviously not doing this without braining. A few things to note:
- esp. the babies didn't arrive in pots
- inspect all the roots
- plants don't do well in nursery potting mixture, esp. not if plants are weak or fragile. I've had issues even with healthy ones
- semi hydro mix is THE BEST. period
As of writing this, plants that used to drop peak up already. I was very worried esp for the super tiny baby anthurium when it arrived. The root system was weak too and its currently on my heating matt. I really hope it pushes through. Its adult leaves are so cool.
Super happy about the skeleton fittonia. For some reason whenever I bought "fittona sets" that showcased this variety, I never got it. Not once. I was eyeing the skeleton variety on tims terraristik (a favorite. especially with costs) for a while and as soon as I saw it back in stock, my hands did things. It looks just like on the photos, its gorgeous. For a while I was wondering if the fittonias I got were just a little different in size and age and not easy to identify. But no, this variety really stands out a lot compared to the other ones. Much different veins, different structure. I hope it thrives and growths large and pretty. I bought it along with a Alsobia dianthiflora, which was mostly just a random addition to my fittonia. However its also a very beautiful plant, that I'm actually not familar with. Figured I give it a try.
The Aglaonema tricolor is my second try growing this plant. I first had it before I discovered semi-hydro a couple years a go. I lost it rather quickly in soil and couldn't figure out its care. But this time, I have better tools and am very happy to own one again. Literally one of my favorite plants ever, in terms of leaf design especially.
Many of the plants from the surprise box are plants I never had before. I know most of them by name (at least the species) but some of them are rare, or plants I haven't considered getting yet. They bascially sent me 100% new additons. Or well, one exception being the alocasia red secret, which I owned before. But it died.... sooooo.
I also have to add them to my houseplant collection before I get lazy. D:
